2026 Voting Information

Types of Election

Primary Election

A primary election is the process political parties use to select their candidates for the upcoming general election. By law, major parties must use primaries to choose their nominees.

To participate in a party's primary, you must be a registered voter affiliated with that specific party. You can choose your party affiliation when you first register to vote, or update your information before the voter registration deadline.

General Election

A general election is the final election where the winners of the party primaries face off against nominees from other political parties.

Unlike primary elections, all registered voters can participate in a general election, regardless of political party affiliation. You are not restricted to voting within your own party; you are free to vote for any candidate on the ballot, allowing you to choose candidates from different political parties for different offices.
